Many moons ago, amongst a plethora of topics we covered during our weekly brunches in Jakarta’s sunny Saturday mornings, one always stood out — health insurance. It is a topic that is near and dear to both my co-founder An and I — we have seen people whom we care about having to go through expensive medical procedures without proper health insurance coverage. Both of us have hugely benefited from employer-sponsored health insurance plans. Hence, we are driven by a mission to make employee benefits and health insurance easier for everyone, as we believe in the power of financial safety net in driving a more resilient society. With our background in building and scaling technology products, we decided to build Aman.

Many people would benefit from innovation in the employee benefits space. The group health insurance premium across Southeast Asia has grown by at least 20% year-over-year during the last decade. However, much of the employee benefits purchase and administration has been stuck in slow, manual and tedious processes — essentially back-and-forth passing of spreadsheets. Transforming the existing manual processes to digital could substantially improve the experience of employers, employees as well as insurers and brokers alike. 

We are dedicating this part of our website to jot down our thoughts as we are building Aman, our perspectives on employee financial wellness and our research on how technology can elevate the employee benefits ecosystem. We will share more over the next few weeks, but for now we just wanted to leave you with three guiding principles which we have been religiously sticking to, as we are building Aman:

  • Delighting customers as our core purpose: Here at Aman, everything we do revolves around our customers, consumers and partners. New product development, marketing initiatives, strategic partnerships — all of them are aimed at improving efficiency and delivering happiness for our customers.
  • Reimagining innovation: Complacency is the enemy of progress. We see Aman as a fresh, blank canvas and ask ourselves, “What can we do to bring more value and innovation to our customers and partners?”
  • We do one thing, but we do it really and truly well: Too many software products today try to do too many things and unfortunately, end up becoming a jack of all trades but a master of none. Here at Aman, we are focused on employee benefits and financial wellness, and aim to bring you the numero uno customer experience you will ever get in the space.
